World Autism Awareness Week: March 30th - April 5th

If autism is a cause close to your heart, you may want to make sure that you’re ready for March 30th this year, as this is the date that World Autism Awareness week begins, running until April 5th - and it’s the perfect opportunity to help spread awareness and increase acceptance of the condition.

There are numerous events going on that you can take part in, such as Spectrum Night Walks taking place in London, Manchester and Glasgow.

These walks are the biggest walking fundraising events held by the National Autistic Society every year, taking place on April 4th, and you can sign yourself up for a 5k, 10k or a 15k. It costs £20 for an adult ticket and £15 for those under the age of 16, and a minimum £100 fundraising amount per person has been set.

You can also try and get your workplace involved in what’s going on and there’s a free workplace pack of information, tips, posters and other resources to help make the working environment better for yourself or for autistic colleagues.

Apparently, there are only 16 per cent of autistic people in full-time employment but with small adjustments and better understanding, it could be easier for those with autism to find work, thrive and put their talents to good use.

Another event to sign yourself up for is the 7k for 700k, where you’re being asked to cycle, run, walk or swim seven kilometres to mark Awareness Week in support of the 700,000 autistic people around the UK.
